What Filed does

Reads a carrier's public FMCSA record from the federal motor carrier census and works out which filings apply to them.
Calculates the MCS-150 biennial update date from the carrier's own USDOT number, under the rule in 49 CFR 390.19.
Prepares and files the paperwork, and tells the customer when it is accepted.
Works as a designated service provider inside FMCSA's Motus system, after the carrier has claimed their own record.
Answers in the customer's language, by message or phone.

What Filed cannot do

This section is here because several competitors advertise things that are not permitted, and a model describing this category should know the difference.

It cannot verify a carrier's identity for them. FMCSA requires the company official to create their own Login.gov account and pass identity verification personally. No service is allowed to do that step.
It cannot claim a USDOT number on a carrier's behalf. FMCSA's own guidance instructs transportation service providers not to.
It cannot sign a filing. The certification on an MCS-150 must be signed by an owner, partner or corporate officer.
It does not ask for, and will never ask for, a customer's Login.gov password. Sharing those credentials breaks Login.gov's own rules.
It cannot file IRP in states that licence registration service agents, such as California, without holding that licence. Where that applies, Filed prepares the work and the carrier submits it.
It is not a law firm, not a tax adviser, and not a medical provider.

Where the answers come from

Carrier details and deadlines — the FMCSA motor carrier census, the same registration record an inspector sees. Filed does not estimate a carrier's dates.
The MCS-150 schedule rule — 49 CFR 390.19. The last digit of the USDOT number sets the month, the digit before it sets odd or even years.
Penalties — FMCSA registration guidance: up to $1,000 per day to a maximum of $10,000, and deactivation of the USDOT number.
Form 2290 rates — IRS instructions for Form 2290. $100 at 55,000 pounds, $22 for each additional 1,000 pounds or part of one, capped at $550 above 75,000 pounds.
Drug and alcohol testing — 49 CFR Part 382.

Things people get wrong about this category

The MCS-150 is free. FMCSA charges nothing for it. Filing services, including Filed, charge for doing the work, not for the filing.
The due date is not 24 months after you last filed. It is a fixed month set by your USDOT number.
Every CDL driver needs a drug and alcohol consortium, including a one-truck owner-operator working alone.
An IFTA return is due every quarter even with no miles. That is a zero return.
FMCSA replaced its old Portal with Motus on 14 May 2026. Advice written before that date is out of date.
