If your USDOT number ends in 1, your biennial update is due in January. Which January depends on the digit before the last one. Odd means odd-numbered years. Even means even-numbered years. You get the whole month, and FMCSA will take it up to 90 days early.

USDOT 123431 ends 3 then 1. The 1 means January. The 3 is odd, so odd years. Due January 2027.

USDOT 123461 ends 6 then 1. The 1 means January. The 6 is even, so even years. Due January 2028.

Why January

FMCSA spreads the work across the year so every carrier is not filing at once. The rule is in 49 CFR 390.19: the last digit of your USDOT number sets the month, and the digit before it sets whether you file in odd or even years.

This is why asking another driver when his is due tells you nothing. His number ends in a different digit.

If you miss January

The penalty is up to $1,000 for every day it is late, to a maximum of $10,000. Then FMCSA can switch your USDOT number off.

A switched-off number is not a fine you settle later. The officer stops the truck at the next inspection, with your load on it, and you cannot legally run interstate until the record is put right.
